description:
Metabase consists of a set of classes to access and manage databases
using an API that assures DBMS independence. There is a function
library that interfaces with DBMS specific driver classes, a parser
class that interperts a custom XML format used to describe database
schemas, and a manager class that installs database schema objects
(tables, indexes, sequences) using the Metabase API. The manager class
is also able to upgrade a previously installed database to a new schema
without affecting that data that was stored since the database was
installed or was upgraded for the last time.

Changes:
The contributed drivers for Informix and Interbase have been added.
Some bugs were fixed and the drivers for ODBC, Postgres, Oracle have
been improved. Creating and dropping tables has been abstracted. Other
additions include support for creating MySQL tables to work with
transactions, driver conformance tests to verify correct NULL handling
and text value escaping, several improvements, and minor bugfixes. The
package licence has been updated.
