I know we do not define these rules in PECL (as in PEAR) but it would be nice if we can be self disciplined. You mean it should have been alpha? The extension did exist for some time on SourceForge. Indeed, it was full of memleaks and bogus return types, but still, I did consider that version as alpha. Also, IMO, beta means 'more robust API'. I didn't want to give the impression that the API was going to change dramatically.Beta is just like RC, really. For example, take zip, I was thinking to release beta in 1.2.0 already, and I had to change the API many times, some critical bugs were still present. I finally move to beta in 1.7.0. Many users thanked me to have kept a clear status, myself included as it helped me to take the right decisions without worrying about BC or current install base :) --Pierre
