Gilles, There is a hack patch given in http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=42456 which may work for you. In an email exchange, the user who logged this bug did realize he also had newer Oracle libraries on his machine. He could compile PHP with them without needing the workaround. We are seeing almost no one needing access to Oracle databases prior to version 8.1. Thank you for letting us know that you do have such a need. Can you tell me more about your databases (size, upgrade plans etc) and how you use OCI8 (what features you use)? I will be able to use this in discusions about the minimum supported version for new versions of OCI8. However, as Tony indicated in your bug, the solution for you may be to continue to use an older version of the extension. We are strongly considering OCI8 changes that will require Oracle 9.2 or later libraries. Oracle 9.2 is about five years old. Oracle 8.0.5 is about nine years old Chris PS There is no need to CC your reply to Wez, Tony & Andi. I will summarize for them if they are interested. gilles dot bouthenot at fcomte dot iufm dot fr wrote:

Bug description: Upgraded to new libs, now Oracle does not support this version anymore Description: ------------ Ok, The new OCI8 extension cannot be compiled against the oracle 8 libs, since oracle 8 is not support anymore. But I installed the new libs (from oracle instant client). And now, when I connect I have a "Oracle does not support this version anymore". I have to connect to a Oracle 8.0.5 database. Can't use the new version of oci8 extension, and can't install the new libs, because oracle client does not support this version. Please make oci8 extension the lines to fix the "OCI_NLS_CHARSET_MAXBYTESZ" problem.
