Sorry for the double, I did searched but didn't find that other issue.
As is it didn't seemed related after Sniper posted the other one. Again,
I apologise for it.

Please do not submit the same bug more than once. An existing
bug report already describes this very problem. Even if you feel
that your issue is somewhat different, the resolution is likely
to be the same.
Thank you for your interest in PHP.
yep, its the same problem (I can reproduce it, too).

You're right. If MySQL extension is removed from php.ini, everything
works fine. Thank you for the link.

Description:
------------
I use `` or popen, the script will evaluate the whole script then hang
until script time limit expires.
The error kicks in everytime.
The error didn't exist prior to 5.2.3
Reproduce code:
---------------
Needed:
<?php
$tasks =
schtasks;
?>
But happens even:
<?php
dir;
?>
Expected result:
----------------
For both scripts the evaluation should be last less than a second.
Actual result:
--------------
Scripts hang until script time limit expires and then die with the
following error (seen only when I used command line, not seen if run
from Apache module):
Error in my_thread_global_end(): 1 threads didn't exit
