New Comment:
Floating point values have a limited precision. Hence a value might
not have the same string representation after any processing. That also
includes writing a floating point value in your script and directly
printing it without any mathematical operations.
If you would like to know more about "floats" and what IEEE
754 is read this:

PHP-versions 4.4.7 and 5.2.3! On both versions there is the following
bug:
number_format('1499.994', 2, ',', '.') results 1.499,99 = OK
number_format('1499.995', 2, ',', '.') results 1.499,99 = ERROR
number_format('1499.996', 2, ',', '.') results 1.500,00 = OK
strange is, that on my computer, wher PHP 5 ist lokal running,
everything is OK
Can somebody help me?
Best regards
