The _$SERVER['HTTPS'] (& $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['HTTPS'] too) variable is
not documented in http://www.php.net/manual/en/reserved.variables.php.
The variable is only defined if the PHP script is viewed under https:
and has a value of 'on'.
