New Comment:
This bug has been fixed in CVS. You can grab a snapshot of the
CVS version at http://snaps.php.net/. In case this was a
documentation
problem, the fix will show up soon at http://www.php.net/manual/.
In case this was a PHP.net website problem, the change will show
up on the PHP.net site and on the mirror sites.
Thank you for the report, and for helping us make PHP better.
After compiling snapshot php4-200207090000 it works fine :)
Time for a bug-fixing-release, as current releases of PHP don't work on
Tru64 (See also #17449)? File-Functions and Array-Functions are
essential functions in my eyes.

There was a bug in mkdir() which itself manifested itself first on
FreeBSD but which had been fixed in HEAD already. Please give
http://snaps.php.net/php4-latest.tar.bz2 a
try, I believe the bug is
fixed there.
