This bug has been fixed in SVN.
Snapshots of the sources are packaged every three hours; this change

updated to mention BEQUEATH_DETACH=YES as the first choice solution (see
http://blogs.oracle.com/opal/2009/03/php_oci8_signal_handling_and_e_1.html)
