Thank you for your bug report. This issue has already been fixed
in the latest released version of PHP, which you can download at 
http://www.php.net/downloads.php

Already fixed in 5.3.0
The zval cache was disabled and later removed.

From our earlier benchmarking I recall that zval caching does give a
big performance boost if any at all. We might even remove it altogether.
So, potential bug in code that may be removed...

impression that the memory usage has been increased.
