crypt($username, "x8"); // HANGS (Sometimes e.g. 1 out of every 3 times
or so)
crypt($username); // NO HANG

Reproduce code:
---------------
$username = 'foo';
crypt($username, "x8");

Actual result:
--------------
Hangs
