Appears to hang when compiled for 32bit Intel code, but not 64bit code.
Hangs in zend_strtod() according to gdb.

looking like a gcc optimizer bug, -O0 is fine where -O2 hangs

(Inappropriate ioctl for device)

and then it hangs...
