This was built using cPanel, WHM 11.40.1 (build 9), using easyApache. Granted that they have this version of PHP listed as "experimental" with their cPanel integration. Since this issue is happening inside PHP, I've reported it here. It's possible that it could be something else happening inside cPanel too.
