Of course I only found this out after I'd written a patch, so if you really want it, you'll find it in my github fork: https://github.com/Synchro/php-src/tree/issue-54821. The SPF type remains a defined RR type, so there's no particular harm in still supporting it as some domains do publish it and PHP as it stands can't query them at all without this patch. It, however, lacks support for records of the type SPF. There is no DNS_SPF type and the record gets excluded from the complete list of records. I would like to request a change to the dns_get_record function to support records of the type SPF as well.
