The fix for this bug has been committed.

This issue is addressed by https://github.com/php/php-src/pull/1261.
After that PR is merged you can use the solution provided by Johnny Willer in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/28765077/get-number-of-ad-errors-with-ldap-and-php-ldap-function-return-unprecise-error/28816473#28816473
without having to define the constant as it is already defined.
You will then be able to retrieve extended error messages using
ldap_get_option($conn, LDAP_OPT_DIAGNOSTIC_MESSAGE, $extended_error);
