Is this still relevant?

Adding a flag to make authentication required would be useful
to. Scripts that send mail through localhost would be forced
to authenticate, thus leaving a log trail.

Is it possible to have the IMap function accept authentication over SMTP? Currently they dont
support it, but there are times (increasingly more and more) where you need to authenticate with a
mail server that has turned off mail relaying.
Refer: RFC2554

I have had to resort to using an exteral cgi to send my emails rather than php becuase of this
issue.
