New Comment:
We are sorry, but can not support PHP 3 related problems anymore.
Momentum is gathering for PHP 5, and we think supporting PHP 3 will
lead to a waste of resources which we want to put into getting PHP 5
ready. Ofcourse PHP 4 will will continue to be supported for the
forseeable future.

The exact error is (using gcc 2.8.1):
functions/ldap.c: In function `php3_ldap_error':
functions/ldap.c:610: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
The offending line reads as:
ld_error = ldap_err2string(ldap->ld_errno);
but should be:
ld_error = ldap_err2string(ld_errno);
This will properly utilize the #if LDAP_API_VERSION section immediately
above.
I am using the Netscape Directory SDK 3.0 and I have --with-ldap
pointing to the correct dir.
