Unquoted # character corrupts the pattern in extended mode even after preg_quote() has been applied. Test script: --------------- <?php preg_match('~^(' . preg_quote('hello#world', '~') . ')\z~x', 'hello#world') Expected result: ---------------- No error, # is properly escaped.
