From: andy dot speagle at wichita dot edu Operating system: RHEL 6.9 PHP version: 7.1.17 Package: Session related Bug Type: Bug Bug description:Can't create session file at session_start() under Apache 2.2 chroot Description: ------------ After upgrading from php 5.6.x to 7.1.17, we're no longer able to start sessions. Digging through the logs, it seems to be an issue creating session files. I get this generic error: "Cannot open source device in ..." Digging through the stack trace, it tells me clearly that it can't create the session ID file. I'm using Apache 2.2 on RHEL 6.9 and we're using the "ChrootDir" feature of Apache 2.2 ... I can see with php 5.6.x it was able to use the directory we set in php.ini inside the chroot ... but php 7.1.x doesn't seem to be able to use either the session directory inside or outside of the chroot. The logs say that it's using /var/lib/php/session that we set... but, it seems to be unable to actually write a file. Permissions haven't changed since php 5.6.x ... so, they should still be good. -- Edit bug report at https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=76344&edit=1 -- Try a snapshot (PHP 5.4): https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=trysnapshot54 Try a snapshot (PHP 5.5): https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=trysnapshot55 Try a snapshot (trunk): https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=trysnapshottrunk Fixed in SVN: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=fixed Fixed in release: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=alreadyfixed Need backtrace: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=needtrace Need Reproduce Script: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=needscript Try newer version: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=oldversion Not developer issue: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=support Expected behavior: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=notwrong Not enough info: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=notenoughinfo Submitted twice: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=submittedtwice register_globals: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=globals PHP 4 support discontinued: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=php4 Daylight Savings: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=dst IIS Stability: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=isapi Install GNU Sed: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=gnused Floating point limitations: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=float No Zend Extensions: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=nozend MySQL Configuration Error: https://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=76344&r=mysqlcfg
