Support for AVIF and HEIF was recently added to libgd:

It would be great if the following functions could be implemented in the
PHP GD extension:
imageavif()
imageheif()
imagecreatefromavif()
imagecreatefromheif()
As well as adding support for the new formats in getimagesize() and
similar functions and adding the constants IMAGETYPE_AVIF and
IMAGETYPE_HEIF.
