There is no threading involved, so the font cache locking shouldn't matter (it likely
doesn't happen at all).

That means that FT_Load_Glyph() failed for some reason. Unfortunately, libgd doesn't
check/report the actual error code.

That happens in gdImageStringFTEx(), but the stack backtrace is lacking debug symbols. Can you
install them (I don't know how to do that on Linux/CentOS)? That could help to get to the root
cause of the issue. Otherwise I have no idea how to debug this further. Maybe @pierrejoye has an
idea?
