I have the same problem with ob_start('ob_gzhandler') and not Laravel websites as well.
With PHP 8.1.4 or PHP 8.0.17 my backend doesn't work properly when I try to reply with a JSON
that contains a base64 encoded string.
If I remove the line "ob_start('ob_gzhandler')" everything works properly.
With PHP 8.0.16 or PHP 8.1.3 everything works good with
"ob_start('ob_gzhandler')" command.
