would be nice if the  apache / apache2handler sapi got a apache_finish_request() like the
fastcgi_finish_request() function. quoting the fastcgi_finish_request() documentation:

>This function flushes all response data to the client and finishes the request. This allows for
>time consuming tasks to be performed without leaving the connection to the client open.
