upgrading from 4.3.1 and from 4.3.0, it used to work on both of
those... what would cause that error if not a php bug?

From what version did you upgrade?
Did the same exact script work with that PHP version?

after reinstalling Apache 2.0 and upgrading to PHP 4.3.2RC1, exactlly
as before my IMAP script will no longer connect to my IMAP server,
which wasn't touched.

ERROR: Server disables LOGIN, no recognized SASL authenticator
