Things are more complicated with PHP4 where the client code is bundled with the PHP source and due to MySQL's license change cannot be upgrade to version 4.x.x. There is a possibility that there will be a non-official PHP build with external MySQL library so stay tuned. So, it would be really great if it is supported by default with the windows binary provided.
