I tried out the php4.30-dev version from php4-200203090900.tar.bz2 and
noticed that the cgi php processes still can hit 40MB or so. The Zend
Optimizer did not work with this PHP4 release, but should not be
relevant to the memory utilization. Could there be a memory leak? The
libraries/headers that php compiled against were unchanged from since
4.0.6.

Works fine for me, both with 4.2.0-dev and 4.3.0-dev, on Debian (Sid)
Linux (2.4.17).

Can anybody on QA verify this, and can you try a cvs snapshot from
snaps.php.net and see if it works there?

I had upgraded PHP from 4.0.6 to 4.1.2. I have memory limit enabled,
and is set 8MB. php is compiled as a cgi. With 4.1.2, however, it
seems this is not being honoured. I have seen numerous php processes
using 24MB to 40MB. I looked at the memory limit patch for 4.0.6 and
notice that it is present in 4.1.2. Has something else broken with
memory limit?
