I wasn't able to reproduce the problem when I copied the
binaries to another machine so I'd like to chalk this up
to Solaris patch stupidity. Thank you for your time.

Are you sure you're loading the right module?
The backtrace shows that you're doing something terribly wrong and it
has nothing to do with OCI8 itself.

My php.ini includes the oci8 module.

And you are loading the right modules in your php.ini? Like the one you
just compiled?
