In the case of a string with the length of IPv6, strlcpy is
about 150% slower here.
From my experience when the difference in speed between two solutions is barely measurable (especially if it gives different results on different platforms) you are better off writing the nicer code. You will never, ever feel a performance difference in real life. It runs once (or so) each request.
