iterate through the database fields

In ASP I have a component that takes the values from the form submitted and
using a For Each loop iterates through the Database with {dbfield in
Recordset.Fields} and for every matching field name it dumps the form field
value in it. Is there something comparable in PHP, or can someone help with
the code for this. I noticed with dbase there is a dbase_add_record but I'm
using MySQL.
