I forgot that you'd rather generate the html for the articles as well. Yes, agree with Nic if you need to generate html.

Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 14:47:33 -0400 Take a look at www.angelinvestormagazine.com. Everything is stored in MSSQL db. A set of ASP templates is used for creating HTML. I wrote an article uploader for storing HTML and images into BLOBs. As you can see, there is no search in the article content. But shouldn't be a problem to do it. It depends. Do you want to let users be able to search all BLOB or TEXT fields? If you have a big tables that would take a long time to search. Do you want to consider using keywords in other fields to support this search? Then use the index to pull out the data from the table that contains BLOB/TEXT fields. It will be much faster but then you can't search every single word in your articles. Depend on the power of your systems, you choose your method. For images, I prefer to put images in file folders instead in the database. Database management and speed costs more then load time, in my oppinion. Nam. Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 15:42:48 +0100 Hi, i am thinking about doing a database to put a magazine online. Basically, we would have an authors table, an issues table, an articles table etc.... Basically, I was hesitating about whether to put stuff like the actual article text (BLOLB/ TEXT) directly into the databse, or whether to put it in a seperate TXT or HTML file in a sepcified directory, bearing in mind the articles would have to be searchable. I was also wondering whether it would be more advantageous to put binary data, such as pictures, directly into the DB ( which i guess would speed up loading time) or whther to put it in seperatefiles (which iun the long run would help keep the db manageable, and thus speed up db searching).... Any thoughts on this ? nick ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com -- PHP Database Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-db-unsubscribe@lists.php.net For additional commands, e-mail: php-db-help@lists.php.net To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net -- PHP Database Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-db-unsubscribe@lists.php.net For additional commands, e-mail: php-db-help@lists.php.net To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
