mssql update adds blank to record

can anyone help me ???
the command:
mssql_query("UPDATE IP_Host
SET Device_Name='$Device_Name',
Device_Owner='$Device_Owner',
Description='$Description'
WHERE ID=$ID");
creates always a blank character at the first position of the record.
how can i get rid of that ???
