Help with MSSQL 7.0 and PHP 4.0.6

Hi
Im currently running : (this is for development)
Windows 2K Pro
Xitami Web Server
PHP 4.0.6
MS SQL 7.0 Desktop Server
The problem:
I can not get php to connect to my mssql server at all. If i do not add
the extension to php_mssql.dll then php does not know the mssql_* functions.
When i do add the line in the php.ini i get parse errors whenever i try to
use mssql at all. If anyone could tell me a way to fix this with OUT using
odbc i would appreciate it a lot. thanks in advance.
