User Authentication error..

I downloaded the source code from http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/tim20000505.php3?page=2 and added the scripts to my web site root directories and added the appropriate SQL tables. I am able to add a user and it says it is "sending out a confirmation email" but for some reason the confirmation mail isnt sent out. If you go back and login with the username and password you provided for registration, it gives you the error message "You need to reply to confirmation email." The source is available from http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/tim20000505.zip and is pretty organized, but do any of you know if there's an error in the script that is not sending out those confirmation emails?
