I realize that this is what it says in small print, but they advertise
unlimited. I realize the purpose behind it, but I think it's both purposely
misleading and I still believe that it is untrue, despite the wording in
their terms and conditions. Seems like "terms and conditions" is a page used
just to get away with little white lies so companies can get more customers
they wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
In my opinion, a good hosting company wouldn't have to advertise unlimited.
Perhaps advertise "as much as needed" or something, but even then, you're
not providing a solid line. I wouldn't want to be JoeBlow.com, get a million
subscribers, and then suddenly find out that I really don't have unlimited
space and bandwidth after all. It wouldn't constitute misuse of the servers
- you would be rightly using those resources. However, you would probably be
"monopolizing" on the resources, so who knows what would happen. Maybe it's
just me, but I think that having a set limit and then offering to extend the
limit if needed for free is much MUCH better and more reliable than
"unlimited." I don't like little white lies - they make me think, "I wonder
what else isn't really the way it is advertised?"

Alternatively, you just need to read the terms and conditions where you will
usually see that "unlimited" is actually "limited" by some safeguard, for
example, here's Hostonce's policy
"In rare cases, HostOnce.com may find a customer to be using server
resources to such an extent that he or she may jeopardize server performance
and resources for other customers. In such instances, HostOnce.com reserves
the right to impose the High Resource User Policy for the consideration of
all customers"
and
"When a website is found to be monopolizing the resources available
HostOnce.com reserves the right to suspend that site immediately. This
policy is only implemented in extreme circumstances and is intended to
prevent the misuse of our servers"
What this effectively means is that for the vast majority of users who host
with them, they will host on what is effectively an unlimited diskspace and
bandwdith server or servers. However, at least with these t&c's in place you
know you are afforded some protection from a hostee who sucks up all the
bandwidth and storage space.
So, while I agree with the sentiment behind your words, I'm not convinced
it's quite as black & white as perhaps you portray.
Sounds like you too have found a good hosting company.
