What is the exact error message that you are getting? Try outputting your
insert/update statement into your browser (so you can see EXACTLY what will
be passed to your database) before actually executing it. Perhaps there is
a syntax error? If you still do not see where the problem lies, copy and
paste the SQL statement from your browser directly into the MySQL command
line and execute it. This will give you the exact error that MySQL is
generating and will tell you why the insert/update is not executing.

Subject: [PHP-DB] PHP-MySQL update problem
hello all,
I'm got a problem with mysql_query. selects work as expected. But when
the query is an insert or update, mysql_query is returning a string (not
an integer as expected) and the query does not actually occur in the
database.
Has anyone else seen this?
MySQL is version 3.22.32
PHP is version 3.0.15
I've tested both on Linux (Mandrake 7) and FreeBSD (ver 4.0) and I get the
same results on both.
I can email a simple test case if anyone is interested.
Thanks for any help.
(yes... i think i *will* upgrade to 4.0 now... i'm being a little
conservative though. I don't want my other --currently working scripts --
to stop working due to the upgrade).
