Good idea, and in general principles it goes for any language.
Four suggestions, do what you will with them:
Read the manual (I know it's in there, but maybe repeat it once or twice).
Read code aloud to somebody else. Wife, co-worker, it doesn't matter. It slows
you down, you tend to explain as you go, and it forces you inoto a fresh look.
Amazing how many times I've caught misplaced periods, unclosed brackets, etc.
this way, or even gained a fresh insight into the algorithm.
Is it a PHP problem or a database problem? If you're getting results, and
processing them, but they are not the correct results, it's a database problem,
not PHP.
