The result returned by your query is like a container, which has to be fetched from and read. That's done using the mysql_fetch_array() function. You will find out all about it here, including good example code

What you really need is a tutorial focusing on using PHP and MySQL to build dynamic web sites. I thinks there's on by just that name. Here's a page that links to various tutorials:
