do you mean something like:

$record = mysql_fetch_array(mysql_query("SELECT $table FROM $field",$dbh));
echo "Text: <input type='text' name='some_name'
value=\"{$record['wel_area']}\"><br>\n";
?>
of course, the output above would need to be inside an html form.
