Things like "recompiling" are not exactly day-to-day work in Win32
world, you're right. I think the sentence from the manual you're
quoting was meant to *NIX users, in fact.
I would advice you to use the precompiled PHP4 version for Win32
that has built-in MySQL support, together with extra benefit like
thread-safety, java and COM-DCOM support, and sundries... Even
better, if you have a good internet connection you could go
Sourceforge and download PHPTriad, that is a "precooked"
installation kit for Win32 machines that install automagically
MySQL, Apache, PHP4. It is BIG (~9 Meg, if I remember well) but
works like a charm and you'll skip each and every installation
problem, so you could start developing PHP+MySQL applications
right away.
