Paul, Check out: http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/barry20000731.php3 It's not exactly what you want but it may help. Otherwise I suggest that you go down to the book shop and look for a book on SQL or MS Access. Initially I learnt with Access 97 and was able to make the jump from it to MySQL once I understood how the SQL language hangs together (the MySQL tutorial is also a good one to look at).
