PostgreSQL and -i

Hi I just installed PostgreSQL but it wont let me use -i parameter and I have to use it to connect the databse using PHP. This is the error i get, and I am trying to run it as the DB superuser. /usr/local/pgsql/bin/postmaster -Di /usr/local/pgsql/data /usr/local/pgsql/bin/postmaster does not find the database system. Expected to find it in the PGDATA directory "i", but unable to open file with pathname "i/base/template1/pg_class". No data directory -- can't proceed. It'll start postmaster if the -i parameter is not passed, as in just , /usr/local/pgsql/bin/postmaster -Di /usr/local/pgsql/data is used.
