OCI8 fails on Solaris 8 (x86)

Hi!
I have installed php-4.0.1pl2 on an Solaris 8 (x86) box, but
whenever I try to connect to the (remote) database I get the
following message:
OCISessionBegin: ORA-03120: two-task conversion routine:
integer overflow in /home/richard/www/dbtest.php on line 9
Compilation went without errors and php works fine except
for this.
Sqlplus and tnsping to the dbhost also works fine.
Can it be an i18n issue ?
