Hi Steve,
Recently at our site we investigated essentially the same thing ( we did not use CSS tho...)
We wanted to see if we could reasonably expect to design a property maintenance system to replace
our ( Oracle forms 4.5 )
client-server one using these web tools.
I was keen to model the UI paradigm on something like Amazon or Cdnow, rather than our existing
Client-server systems...unfortunately the others wanted to see how close we could get...
So we ended up adding JavaScript to the equation, and relying on latest HTML tags that not all
browsers support - in short only Ie5 worked with this system. The consequence of this was
complicated coding ( to dynamically create the JavaScript ) and a "cluttered" UI (to match
the sophistication of our existing systems ).
Somewhere along the way ( at the start ? ) I think we lost sight of the fact that "the system
only exists to DO some business functions" and the SIMPLER the UI the better...
My 2c
Mark
