How could I read a CLOB in webpage?

I follow the example in www.php.net
$sql = OCIParse($conn,"select * from table_with_lob_field");
OCIExecute($sql);
while ( OCIFetchInto($sql, $row, OCI_ASSOC) )
$lob_data = $row[lob_field_name]->load();
echo $lob_data;
}
but I still couldn't show the data in my webpage.
Could anyone help me? thanks!
