It seems that you need to do a full oracle install. I asked the question
previously and that's the answer I got. Another less sophisticated option
is to mount your oracle machine on NFS.

Subject: [PHP-DB] Connecting to Oracle using PHP
Hello everyone!
I have a few questions real quick for you. To connect to an Oracle database
on a separate machine from php, what do I need other than the OCI libraries
installed on the computer with the php? Also, is there any way to tell what
group a user is a member of in apache? Lastly, to connect to an Oracle db
with php do you need to have the Oracle client installed on the machine with
php?
Thanks,
Jay
