I'd recommend against that - if you can, save Oracle the trouble of slogging
through the extra bits by storing the file in a directory and save the
filename. If you do need to do this, however, see if the PHP Oracle driver
supports the BLOB and BFILE types
(http://oradoc.photo.net/ora816/appdev.816/a76940/toc.htm). If not, you're
probably going to need to use a LONG. There's also the possibility of using
a cartridge for image types (Virage makes one) but I don't know if support
for that would be any different.
