Though I've never done it, you could define global variables in an include
file and use the auto_prepend (that might not be the actual name but close)
and that will automatically include that file with every script. This can
be set in the php.ini file.

Subject: [PHP-DB] Variables through whole scripts
Hi,
Does anybody knows a way to pass global variables to php scripts
from the Apache Server?
Well, I mean in Roxen when you configure the PHP module, you can
define variables that will be passed to all PHP scripts : administrator
e-mail, site colors, numeric values, etc.... so you don't need to
define them anymore.
Any idead?
Thanks.
xavi.
