I am in the designing stages of a student database and
was wondering about generating (using an algorithm)
unique id's by perhaps doing some kind of md5
calculation on, say, last name & birth date...what
would be necessary to get a consistent (+-8 chars),
unique identifier from such a procedure...has anybody
done something like this? Can you share your
algorithm, code ideas?
