$PHP_SELF and MySQL ?

HI all
Thanks for the help with my last post.
I have created a db using the example in the SAMS book on PHP4, and it uses
as its form action $PHP_SELF.
The form and page parse all ok, after I sorted out my coding errors....
But the form dose not post the required info to the MySQL db.
Is there something I am missing?
My set-up is Apache + Php4 + Mysql all working ok on a local system just for
my own education.
