Oracle 8.1.5 for Linux was *THE HELL* definitely.
Oracle 8.1.6.1 has the good installer, because Oracle decided that Linux will
be a strategic platform. Oracle on Solaris is just the same as 8.1.6 on Linux.
In addition you'll need to configure /etc/system and to install some OS patches.
Oracle on Linux is known to be faster then Oracle on NT, but you'll need to do
fine tuning in order to get the 3x-4x speedup.
A kind of support from other Oracle users you can get on technet.oracle.com Linux discussion
board.
Hope this helps.
