mysql_real_connect()

Hello php people, Does anyone knows if I can connect a mysql database located in other computer in other network? I´ve tried changing the "server name" by the ip address but didin´t work; I´ve tried using the function fconnet, to open a socket connetion on uni domain and I didn´t have success!! Searching in mysql manual I´ve founded a command that is mysql_real_connect($mysql,"ipaddress","username","password",port,NULL,flag); it´something like that.... Can anyone help me??
